Barcelona widened their gap at the top of the LaLiga table to seven points with a narrow 1-0 victory over Leganés on Saturday, courtesy of an own goal by defender Jorge Sáenz.
The win also stretched their unbeaten league streak to 13 games.
After a tightly contested first half that saw opportunities for both teams, the breakthrough came shortly after the restart.
A cross from Raphinha aimed at Robert Lewandowski was mistakenly diverted into the Leganés net by Sáenz, ultimately deciding the contest.
Lewandowski, who is eyeing his 100th goal for Barcelona, came close to scoring but sent a header wide from another Raphinha delivery.
He was later substituted in the 67th minute, making way for Ferran Torres.
Leganés appeared to have equalized when Dani Raba nodded in Adrià Altimira’s cross, but their celebrations were cut short as the goal was ruled out for offside.
With this result, Hansi Flick’s men climbed to 70 points, while Real Madrid, who travel to Alaves on Sunday, sit second with 63. Leganés, meanwhile, remain in the relegation zone on 28 points, trailing safety by two.
