Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has mourned the demise of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Olalekan Balogun.
The 2023 presidential contender under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, on Friday, described the late the Olubadan of Ibadanland as a patriot and strategic thinker.
The PDP chieftain, in a statement by his media office in Abuja, also described the late Balogun as a long-standing friend and a great patriot.
He said the late traditional leader was a socialist as a politician, and even when he ascended the throne, did not betray his beliefs in putting the interests of the people first, according to Peoples Gazette.
“The deceased Olubadan will be sorely missed for his wisdom and strategic thinking,” he said.
He declared his solidarity with the people of Ibadan at the difficult time, prayed for the Ali-Iwo family of the late Olubadan to find the fortitude to bear the loss of their patriarch.
In a related development, former Abia State Governor, Orji Kalu, also commiserated with the government and people of Oyo state in a statement on Friday, in Abakaliki.
The lawmaker acknowledged the robust contributions of the late traditional ruler to the social, economic and political development of Ibadan, Oyo state and Nigeria.
“I urge leaders to emulate the exemplary qualities of the late nationalist who was passionate about the unity and progress of Nigeria.
“He was a well-respected traditional ruler owing to his selflessness, patriotism, humility, and commitment to community service.
“The late Olubadan will be forever remembered for leaving behind worthy legacies for his family to uphold,” he stated.
