The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Friday, mourned the demise of a former Minister of Interior, Alhaji Bello Maitama Yusuf.
Atiku, via a post on his X handle on Friday, 13, 2023, condoled the deceased’s family, friends and associates.
The former vice president described the late minister of the Interior as someone who acquitted himself credibly in public service during his tenure as a minister.
He stated that the former minister will be greatly missed by those he rendered service to, most especially, the people of Jigawa.
Atiku, however, prayed that Allah would comfort his family fami, and great him eternal rest.
Premium Politics earlier reported that Yusuf, who also served as senator from 1999-2007, died in the early hours of Friday in Kano at the age of 76.
The news of his death was confirmed by a family friend, Alhaji Hussaini Dalhatu, who noted that the funeral prayer of the Sardauna Dutse would take place after the Jumu’at prayer at the Emir of Kano’s palace on Friday.
Reacting to the development, Atiku said the Jigawa-born politician would be greatly missed.
“On behalf of my family, I express my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and associates of Alhaji Bello Maitama Yusuf, who passed away today.
“Alhaji Maitama Yusuf, the Sardauna of Dutse, acquitted himself creditably in public service as a minister in the Second Republic and a Senator from 1999-2007.
“He will be sorely missed by those he had dutifully rendered service to, in particular, the people of Jigawa State.
“I pray that the Almighty Allah will comfort his family and grant him eternal peace,” Atiku tweeted.
