The President of the Appeal Court, Monica Dongban-Mensem, has constituted a tribunal to hear the petitions on the just concluded Saturday’s by-elections in Katsina State.
This was disclosed in a statement issued and signed by the Secretary of the tribunal, Hajiya Aisha Muhammad-Fika in Katsina.
Muhammad-Fika in the statement, noted that the action was taken in accordance with the power conferred on the appeal court President, by the 1999 Constitution as amended, and the electoral Act 2022 as amended.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had on Saturday, February 3, conducted by-elections across 20 polling units in Kankara and Faskari Local Government Areas of Kaduna state.
Disclosing the setting up of the tribunal to hear any petition arising from the elections, Muhammad-Fika said ”Pursuant to the powers conferred on the President, Court of Appeal by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended and the electoral Act 2022 as amended, Justice Dongban-Mensam, has constituted the national and state assembly by-elections tribunal for Katsina State.
“Sequel to the above, the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi, has granted the use of High Courtroom No 5, situated at the state’s High Court of Justice complex for the tribunal.”
She however noted that for any inquiries, the general public is hereby advised to contact the Registry/Secretariat of the tribunal, adding that a date would be communicated for the inaugural sitting of the tribunal.
