The All Progressives Congress has cautioned Yiaga Africa, a civil society organization accredited by the Independent National Electoral Commission, to refrain from questioning the commission’s results on the Edo State governorship election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, emphasized that INEC is the sole statutory authority for conducting and declaring election results, according to Ripples Nigeria.
Morka asserted that Yiaga Africa’s attempts to second-guess INEC’s findings are unacceptable.
Recall that Yiaga Africa’s report had raised concerns over the election’s integrity, citing instances of vote-buying, intimidation, and logistical challenges.
The APC’s warning highlights tensions between political parties and civil society organizations in Nigeria’s electoral process.
“Yiaga Africa is not, and must not constitute itself into, a parallel agency for the declaration of election results.
“Yiaga Africa’s report is a travesty, replete with methodological flaws, politicized observations, inconsistencies, inaccuracies, and calls its credibility into question,” Morka added.
