The All Progressives Congress in Izzi Unuhu Ward 10, Abakaliki Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, has officially welcomed a group of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party.
The defectors include Hon. Victor Chidi Nwoke, a lawmaker representing Abakaliki North Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, as well as other notable politicians such as Mr. Innocent Oriji, the former Labour Party chairman in Abakaliki LGA, and Hon. Emmanuel Nwandegu, the former leader of the Abakaliki legislative council.
The defectors were received into the APC during a ward stakeholders meeting, which was chaired by Hon. Emeka Nkwode, the ward chairman.
The meeting was attended by several party leaders, including Mbam Stanley Lebechi, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, and Hon. Chinedu Emenike, the SSA on Youth Mobilisation.
In his remarks, Ward Chairman Nkwode praised the defectors for making a wise decision in joining the APC, according to Daily Post.
He welcomed them to the party and encouraged them to work together with existing members to build a stronger and more united APC in the state.
This development is seen as a significant boost to the APC in Ebonyi State which demonstrates the growing appeal of the party among politicians and citizens alike.
“Today, we welcome you into APC with open arms to work with you towards the progress of the party and the state.
“We shall accord you the privileges therein for all members of APC in the Ward and ensure you are fully registered,” he said.
Also speaking at the occasion, Commissioner for Works and Transport Mbam Stanley Lebechi, who hosted the meeting, declared that with the defection, PDP has become moribund in the Ward and the LGA.
He said Governor Francis Nwifuru, through his good works, has collapsed all political parties in the state into APC.
“I commend Governor Francis Nwifuru for his compassionate governance, which has resulted in the payment of more than eight years’ arrears of gratuities and pensions to retirees.
“He has given business grants to hawkers and scholarship grants to Ebonyi law school students, among other numerous achievements within one year in office,” he stated.
Mbam assured the defectors that they would be accommodated with all Ebonyi people under Governor Nwifuru’s leadership, as he is dedicated to the people’s welfare.
He called the people to continue supporting the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru.
Responding, Hon. Victor Nwoke, who expressed delight at being received into the party, called for cooperation among stakeholders towards the progress of the party.
The legislator said he decided to join APC due to the achievements and leadership prowess of Governor Nwifuru, which centres on the People’s Charter of Needs.
“The Governor of Ebonyi State is a paradigm of perfection and I am happy to identify with him,” he said.
