A female governorship aspirant from the All Progressive Congress in Ondo State, Folakemi Omogoroye, has demanded the cancellation of the primary election held on Saturday.
The election was conducted under the supervision of Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, who was appointed by the national leadership of the party to head the election committee in the state.
Expressing her concerns, Omogoroye stated, “There was no election anywhere; it’s a complete rape of democracy.”
She lamented the widespread absence of election officials and voting materials at polling centers, which prevented her and her supporters from exercising their right to vote.
Despite her meticulous preparation and financial commitment to the party, Omogoroye claimed she was sidelined and unable to participate in the democratic process. She called on the party’s leader, President Bola Tinubu, to intervene and annul the purported election.
Omogoroye emphasized, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave us women a renewed hope agenda that prompted me to enter the race with the assurance that the election would be free and fair. But to my greatest surprise, the reverse is the case.”
She continued, “I was in the field from 7 am; no election materials were seen, nor were any party or INEC officials present. Suddenly, a voice announced that Aiyedatiwa had won. I don’t know how that happened, and I don’t know how the party is going to accept that.”
Expressing her disappointment, Omogoroye warned of dire consequences for the party’s future in the state if swift action was not taken. She threatened legal action if her demand for a fresh and transparent election was not promptly met.
“I am not going to accept it, and now, I am calling for the cancellation. If this is not done, maybe we’ll meet in court,” she concluded.
