The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has condemned Governor Charles Soludo’s appointment of Transition Committee chairmen for the 21 local government areas, describing it as a blatant disregard for democratic principles.
In a statement, PDP State Chairman, Engr. Chigozie Igwe, accused the All Progressives Grand Alliance administration of hijacking the democratic process by conducting primaries and electing councillors and chairmen without adhering to democratic norms.
Igwe argued that the move has deprived the people of Anambra State of essential amenities and accused the Soludo administration of mismanaging public funds by allocating a meager sum to its handpicked TC chairmen, according to Nigerian Tribune.
The PDP chairman emphasized that the local government is the foundation of democratic governance, and any attempt to undermine it is a recipe for disaster.
According to Igwe, “the local government is the foundation of democratic governance, and hijacking it is a recipe for disaster.
“Governor Soludo’s actions have deprived the people of Anambra State of essential amenities like schools, healthcare, markets, and infrastructure, despite approximately ₦195 billion accruing to local government areas over the past two years.
“Instead, the Soludo administration has allocated a paltry sum to its handpicked TC chairmen, leaving the people in dire need of basic services.
“This is gross mismanagement of public funds and a betrayal of the trust reposed in the government.”
