A prominent Peoples Democratic Party chieftain in Kaduna State, Alhaji Isa Rabiu, has advised former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to patiently await the outcome of investigations into his eight-year administration.
Rabiu made this known in a chat with Daily Post on Wednesday.
Rabiu’s statement comes after El-Rufai claimed he did not embezzle public funds during his tenure and offered to swear on the Holy Quran to prove his innocence.
The PDP chieftain cautioned El-Rufai against making premature claims, citing his own history of initiating investigations into former Governor Ahmed Makarfi’s administration.
Rabiu criticized El-Rufai’s behavior, questioning his discipline and self-control. He also referenced El-Rufai’s past actions, including fleeing the country during late President Yar’Adua’s regime.
Rabiu called on the Kaduna State government, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and Independent Corrupt Practices and related offences Commission to conduct a thorough investigation into El-Rufai’s tenure.
The goal, Rabiu stated, is to recover any funds allegedly stolen during El-Rufai’s administration. This development highlights the ongoing tensions between El-Rufai and his critics.
The investigation’s outcome will likely have significant implications for El-Rufai’s legacy and the future of Kaduna State politics.
“Reacting to El-Rufai’s assertion, Rabiu said, “Former governor El-Rufai should wait patiently for the final investigation before uttering anything against his predecessors or swearing with the Quran on what transpired during the eight years of his administration in Kaduna State.”
“He added, “To be honest, from all indications, El-Rufai lacks discipline, self control and focus to do the right thing than swearing with holy Quran. The same El-Rufai ran away to a foreign country during the regime of late President Yar’Adua and only came back when the President died in 2010 and started making unnecessary utterances against the late President Yar’Adua.”
