Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, will on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, provide a detailed account of his administration’s achievements over the past year.
Governor Eno made this announcement during the inauguration of the newly expanded 21.5km Oron road, which stretches from the Ring Road 3 roundabout to the Victor Attah International Airport Gate.
This road, originally known as Airport Road, was renamed “Udom Emmanuel Boulevard” in honor of his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel, who initiated its expansion. Eno expressed his gratitude to Emmanuel for starting the project and for serving as the guest of honor at the inauguration ceremony.
During his speech, Eno praised Emmanuel’s strategic approach to development, particularly his efforts to open major economic gateways into the state.
He stated, “Let me start by commending my predecessor, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, CON, for starting the expansion of this very important road project for which we, having deployed our finishing anointing, are gathered today to commission.”
Eno also highlighted the enhancements made to the road to make it more welcoming to visitors. “We have added some features to make the road even more welcoming to our visitors. I am sure every Akwa Ibomite, irrespective of political persuasion, should be proud of this gateway into our beautiful and serene capital city of Uyo. The character, pulse, and ethos of any city all over the world, to a large extent, are defined and shaped by what a first-time visitor sees at the point of arrival, which is the airport, and the major roads that lead to the city center. And Your Excellency, you recognized this very important aspect and started the expansion of this road. We are determined to ensure that our dear state remains the destination of choice for major events in the nation.”
Governor Eno announced that he would present a comprehensive performance scorecard on Wednesday, detailing their achievements and plans for the second year in office. “On Wednesday, we will give an in-depth account of our performance scorecard, and where we intend to go in our second year in office. We give thanks to God for His grace and for what we have achieved in the past twelve months, connecting the dots and ticking all the boxes in our ARISE Agenda in our march to galvanize the rural areas to feel the impact of governance.”
Governor Eno also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the support from the federal government and highlighted his administration’s willingness to partner with the Ministry of Aviation to leverage the State’s smart International Airport Terminal and the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul facility.
Former Governor Udom Emmanuel, speaking at the event, affirmed that Umo Eno’s emergence as governor was part of God’s good plans for the state. He expressed his appreciation for having the road and the Dakkada Towers named after him.
“Let me thank you for the vision of naming this road after me and by extension, my entire family. I want to thank you for this honor. I don’t take it for granted. I’m amazed and overwhelmed that God laid this in your heart and you did it,” Emmanuel stated.
Additionally, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Sam Anyanwu, commended Governor Eno for his achievements within one year in office, particularly for maintaining continuity and a cordial relationship with his predecessor. He emphasized the party’s pride in Governor Eno’s accomplishments.
