The Labour Party has rejected the removal of its candidate, Alex Otti, as the Governor-elect in Anambra State.
A Federal High Court in Kano had nullified his election as the Governor-elect of Abia State, on Friday, May 20, 2023.
Premium Politics had earlier reported that Justice C. N. Yunusa, who presided over the court proceedings, declared the elections of Otti and all other Labour Party candidates in Abia State null and void.
The court had based its ruling because Otti’s emergence and the candidacy of other affected individuals did not adhere to the provisions outlined in the 2022 Electoral Act.
However, the LP chairman in the state, Hon. Ceekay Igara while responding to the court’s ruling, said it can not stand, noting that the decision was “laughable.”
According to him, the court’s pronouncement would bear no significance in the forthcoming inauguration of the Governor-elect.
He stated that only an election tribunal can remove a democratically elected individual from office.
“The court’s pronouncement is laughable. Everyone should continue with their regular activities. Only the tribunal can remove Alex Otti. A court alone cannot remove someone who was duly elected. I am intensifying preparations for the inauguration,” he said.
