The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Abia State, Kingsley Ononogbu, has attributed the party’s dismal performance in the last general elections to disunity among stakeholders.
Addressing local government and ward executive committee members on Friday in the state, Ononogbu emphasized the need for unity, stating that victory cannot be achieved in an atmosphere of rancor.
He disclosed that the state leadership is working on a template to reconcile warring factions until congresses are conducted, where members can make their choices and unite in the party’s interest, according to Daily Post.
Ononogbu urged factions to put aside individual differences and work towards securing majority elective seats in subsequent elections. He cautioned that internal conflicts and rumors spread by “foot soldiers” have hindered the party’s progress, emphasizing the need for unity to avoid further losses.
This development comes after the Abia State chapter of the APC was embroiled in crisis following parallel gubernatorial primary elections held by the national leadership.
Ononogbu said: “Most of our foot soldiers are the cause of the problems, they go round spreading rumours, they meet us separately and tell us rumours that will pitch us against one another.
“These quarrels have not gotten us anywhere. We have to unite so we don’t lose again.”
