A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, who was a media Aide to the former President, Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has condemned in strong terms, the suspension of the embattled Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
Punch Metro had earlier reported on Friday night that Emefiele was suspended by President Tinubu with immediate effect.
Reacting to the development through his Twitter handle some minutes after the incident, Omokri who described the suspension as a vindictive act to punish Emefiele for the naira-redesigned policy introduced by the embattled governor, said his policy was meant to reduce the impact of money during the last general elections in Nigeria.
Omokri who praised Tinubu for starting well with his administration, urged him to reconsider the suspension, so as not to mare the progress he had made so far.
“The suspension of Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, by President Bola Tinubu is not in good taste.
“It appears to be a vindictive act, to punish Mr Emefiele for the patriotic Naira redesign policy, which was meant, among other things, to reduce the impact of money on the #NigerianElections2023.
“President Tinubu started well. Indeed, I have had cause to praise him. But he should not mar the progress he has made by this act of seeming vengeance.
“The country needs unity and stability after a fractious election. Now is the time for appeasement, not punishment. It is hoped that the President will reconsider his actions for the nation’s greater good.
“#TableShaker,” he wrote.
