President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given the green light for the mandatory use of the National Identity Number authentication system across all federal ministries, departments, and agencies.
This development follows the government’s approval of the launch of the NIN Authentication service by the National Identity Management Commission, aimed at providing secure and seamless identity verification nationwide.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement issued by the spokesperson for NIMC, Dr. Kayode Adegoke.
According to Adegoke, the NINAuth platform is a state-of-the-art suite of verification services, which includes web, API, and mobile options.
It is designed to bolster data security, safeguard user privacy, and make it easier for citizens and legal residents to confirm their identities when accessing government services.
“The NIMC NINAuth application is the official service for integration with the commission’s backend infrastructure. It introduces a robust layer of protection, empowering individuals with greater control over their personal information.
“By requiring explicit consent before data is shared for Know Your Customer (KYC) processes or other verifications, the platform fosters trust, transparency, and user autonomy in digital identity management,” the statement partly reads.
