RB Leipzig’s Yussuf Poulsen netted a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to earn a thrilling 3-3 draw against Bundesliga frontrunners Bayern Munich on Saturday, halting Harry Kane’s title celebrations, at least for now.
In a match filled with momentum swings, Bayern trailed 2-0 at the break but mounted a spirited second-half comeback, scoring twice in quick succession and grabbing an 83rd-minute lead.
Poulsen, however, had the final say, finding the net just seconds before the whistle, keeping Bayern at 76 points, nine ahead of reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen, who visit Freiburg on Sunday.
Although Bayern boast a superior goal difference and have two games remaining, their 34th league title will only be sealed if Leverkusen fail to claim victory on Sunday.
Kane’s quest for his first major trophy continues, at least until Sunday.
The result also breathed life into Leipzig’s top-four hopes, keeping them fifth with 50 points and in the race for next season’s Champions League.
What began as a day of potential glory for Bayern quickly turned tense, as Leipzig came out firing.
The home side created early chances before Benjamin Sesko opened the scoring in the 11th minute, curling a beautiful shot past goalkeeper Jonas Urbig after a swift pass from Xavi Simons.
With Kane suspended and watching from the stands, Bayern struggled to create anything dangerous in the first half.
Things got worse in the 39th minute when Lukas Klostermann rose unchallenged to head home David Raum’s free kick, doubling Leipzig’s advantage.
But Bayern came out renewed after the interval. Eric Dier nodded in Michael Olise’s corner to pull one back, and within a minute, Olise levelled things with a powerful finish.
Leroy Sané then gave Bayern the lead with just seven minutes remaining, prompting Kane to move down from the stands, poised to join his teammates in celebration.
Yet, Leipzig had one more twist in store. Poulsen coolly chipped Urbig in the dying seconds, silencing the Bayern faithful and postponing their title party.
The Bavarians will now look to clinch the title in front of their fans next weekend when they welcome Borussia Mönchengladbach to the Allianz Arena.
