A fire incident has once again left a trail of destruction in Ibadan, Oyo State, consuming properties worth millions of naira.
The blaze reportedly broke out in the early hours of Friday behind a petrol station located in the Sango area of the city.
According to reports, three shops were engulfed in the inferno, which struck before dawn.
Confirming the development, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, disclosed in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday that several properties, including three shops, were affected by the fire.
“The emergency was reported at exactly 04:41hour of early morning of Friday 2nd, 2025. The agency’s personnel led by ACFS Adedeji (Mrs) promptly deployed to the scene of the incident. On getting there, it was discovered to be three shops out of a row of ten (10) prefabricated shops well alight.
“We swiftly swung into action and restricted the fire from spreading to other shops and the fire was completely extinguished.
“No casualty was recorded, the fire affected three shops, freezers and drinks. All the nearby shops and properties worth millions of naira were saved by the officers of the fire service.
“The fire incident was as a result of sparks from a deep freezer plugged overnight unattended to and ignited nearby combustible materials and set the shops ablaze”.
Despite the intensity of the fire, swift intervention from the fire service prevented further devastation, saving several adjacent businesses from damage.
