The former chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Otunba Henry Ajomale, has weighed in on the leadership crisis currently affecting the State House of Assembly.
Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of an award ceremony for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Lagos on Saturday, Ajomale, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council, assured that the crisis was nearing an end.
Ajomale explained that the crisis stemmed from the aggrieved stance of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who had challenged his removal in court. He affirmed that Obasa’s decision to approach the court was his legal right.
“The crisis is about to end. Somebody is aggrieved and he went to court. It is his right to go to court. And it is now our own duty, since Mr. President intervened, and rightly so, because this is his own making,” Ajomale said.
He further emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention was critical, given the involvement of the assembly in Tinubu’s political journey. Ajomale stated that the president’s involvement would prevent the crisis from escalating into a more bitter issue.
“Very soon, the next sitting, you will see the difference,” he added. “He (Obasa) will not allow it to create a bitter problem. And that is why he has to intervene. And everything is back to normal now.”
Ajomale also expressed confidence that with Obasa’s return, the matter would soon be resolved in court, possibly before the next sitting of the Assembly. “Now that he (Obasa) has been returned, I believe that the case will be withdrawn from court. In no time. Perhaps at the next sitting, you will see the difference,” he added.
