Bashir El-Rufai, the son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has made a surprising U-turn on his views about Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, describing him as “surprisingly not a bad person.”
Bashir’s change of heart comes after his father’s recent defection from the All Progressives Congress to the Social Democratic Party.
The comment was made in response to a netizen who suggested that the SDP would struggle to defeat the APC in the 2027 elections unless it forms an alliance with Peter Obi.
In a tweet, Bashir wrote, “Peter Obi is surprisingly not a bad person after all. My views on him have changed recently. My mind was poisoned by my former party members.”
Further adding to his remarks, Bashir invited young Nigerians to join his father’s new party, the SDP, revealing plans to launch an online platform for registration by the end of the week.
Bashir’s sudden shift in stance has raised questions about whether Peter Obi could be considering an alliance with the SDP as part of his strategy for the 2027 general elections.
