The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Shehu Musa Gaban, has described the defection of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to the party as a significant boost, motivating and energizing more Nigerians to join the SDP.
Gaban made the statement on Monday, confirming El-Rufai’s shift from the All Progressives Congress to the SDP.
He emphasized that the former governor’s decision was historic and would strengthen the party, encouraging more well-meaning Nigerians to join the movement.
The SDP chairman highlighted El-Rufai’s reputation for bold reforms, governance excellence, and national impact, noting that his presence would further energize the party’s efforts. Gaban also reaffirmed the SDP’s commitment to putting the people first, strengthening democracy, and reinforcing democratic institutions in Nigeria.
“Today marks a historic moment as former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, officially joins the Social Democratic Party (SDP)! As a man known for bold reforms, governance excellence, and national impact, his presence will further energize our movement and inspire more Nigerians to join us in building a better future,” Gaban said in the statement.
He added, “SDP is the party that truly puts the people first. We welcome El-Rufai and encourage all well-meaning Nigerians to join the movement. The future is SDP!”
Earlier reports confirmed that El-Rufai left the APC for the SDP on Monday, citing dissatisfaction with the handling of the party’s affairs by its leadership, especially over the past two years.
