Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised speculation about his political plans ahead of the 2027 general elections following a surprise visit to Aishatu Dahiru, also known as Binani, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Adamawa State during the 2023 general election.
The meeting took place at Binani’s private residence in Abuja and marked the first private engagement between the two political figures since the 2023 elections.
This visit has fueled discussions about a potential political realignment as both politicians eye the upcoming election cycle.
Atiku’s visit is significant, especially given the campaign materials from the 2023 election that linked his presidential bid with Binani’s governorship race. While Atiku officially supported the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Ahmadu Fintiri, and his eventual victory, some of the campaign materials at the time prominently featured Binani alongside Atiku as the preferred candidates for their respective positions.
In the 2023 election, Fintiri won with 430,861 votes, defeating Binani, who secured 398,788 votes. Political analysts suggest that Atiku, who is expected to run for president again, may be seeking new political alliances beyond the PDP to strengthen his chances in 2027.
Meanwhile, Binani, with significant influence in Adamawa, is reportedly preparing to contest for the governorship again in 2027, adding further intrigue to the developing political landscape.
