President Bola Tinubu has convened a second Federal Executive Council meeting within 24 hours, marking the continuation of a two-day marathon session to address a backlog of memos.
The meeting, which started at 1:26 p.m. on Tuesday, follows Monday’s session, and both are part of efforts to clear accumulated memos since December.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, had previously stated that another meeting was necessary due to the large number of memos awaiting discussion.
Idris confirmed that there would be another press briefing after the conclusion of Tuesday’s FEC meeting.
He said, “So we want to say that tomorrow there will be another press briefing after the FEC meeting.”
Key figures present at the meeting included Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, Chief of Staff Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack. Ministers, ministers of state, and representatives from various ministries, departments, and agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, were also in attendance.
In the previous meeting on Monday, the council approved N4.8 billion for the Presidential Treatment Programme, which will provide 150,000 HIV treatment packs from February to May 2025.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, explained that the decision was in response to recent policy changes by the U.S. that have impacted Nigeria’s health programs, particularly in relation to HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria funding.
