President Bola Tinubu has called on leaders at all levels of government to prioritize unity and dialogue as key tools for resolving differences and fostering national cohesion.
Tinubu, who was represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, made the remarks on Monday in Lokoja at the Kogi Dialogue, an event marking Governor Ahmed Ododo’s first year in office.
In his speech, Tinubu emphasized that dialogue is not only a platform for expressing grievances but also an essential path to justice, reconciliation, and understanding. He warned that without dialogue, the country risks being left behind by history and progress. He commended Governor Ododo for initiating the dialogue, describing it as a “spark of wisdom” and an important step towards reconciliation and national progress.
The president further highlighted that unity is crucial for the nation’s advancement. Drawing a parallel to the confluence of the River Niger and River Benue in Lokoja, Tinubu urged leaders to draw inspiration from the natural joining of the two rivers. He suggested that, just as the rivers merge to create strength and flow, Nigeria needs collective effort and collaboration to overcome challenges and achieve prosperity.
Tinubu appealed to political and community leaders to support the government’s efforts and create an environment conducive to growth and development. Despite acknowledging the various challenges facing the nation, including economic pressures and security threats, he stressed that true leadership is tested in difficult times.
The president urged the people of Kogi and Nigeria to see themselves as integral parts of the nation’s progress, likening them to threads in the intricate fabric of development. Governor Ododo also encouraged residents to remain dedicated to the growth and development of the state, making full use of the available opportunities and resources.
“The president said, “Dialogue is not just an opportunity to air grievances. It is the true path to justice, reconciliation, and understanding. Without dialogue, history will pass us by, leaving us abandoned by time and forgotten by progress.”
