Saudi Arabian Prince, Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, famously known as the ‘Sleeping Prince’, recently celebrated his 36th birthday, still in a coma nearly twenty years after a tragic car crash left him unconscious.
According to Roya News, the prince was a young military college student in 2005 when he sustained a severe head injury from a road accident.
Since then, he has remained in a coma, sustained by life-support machines at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh.
Prince Al-Waleed, a great-grandson of Saudi Arabia’s founding monarch, King Abdulaziz, and grandson of Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz, has earned widespread sympathy over the years.
Though he is not a direct descendant of the reigning King Salman bin Abdulaziz, the monarch is his great-uncle.
Despite medical advice to withdraw life support, Prince Al-Waleed’s father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, has remained firm in his decision to keep his son alive, driven by faith and hope.
“If God had wanted him to die in the accident, he would have been in his grave now,” the father reportedly said, insisting on continuing his son’s care.
In 2019, reports surfaced of minor movements by the prince, such as slight finger raises and subtle head turns, though these gestures did not develop into full consciousness.
Following his birthday on April 18, Prince Al-Waleed’s story once again gained traction on social media, with many sharing photos of him surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Roya News highlights that Prince Al-Waleed remains on a ventilator and feeding tube, as his devoted family holds onto hope for a miraculous recovery.
