Immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, is expected to be arraigned today, Wednesday, November 27, before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama, Abuja.
This follows his appearance at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission office on Tuesday.
Bello, who arrived at the EFCC headquarters accompanied by his legal team, submitted himself for questioning as part of preparations for his arraignment. The anti-graft agency detained him for further clarifications related to the case.
He is set to be docked before Justice Maryanne Anenih of the FCT High Court. The arraignment date was set after the EFCC requested time to prepare, with Justice Anenih issuing a public summons against Bello on October 3 concerning fresh charges filed by the Commission.
The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arraignment but did not specify the exact charges. He stated that Bello would be brought before the court in line with legal procedures.
During the last court session, held on October 3, EFCC Counsel Jamiu Agoro informed the court that the 30-day window granted for the summons had not elapsed. The court agreed with the EFCC’s application for an adjournment, fixing November 27 as the return date for Bello’s arraignment.
The case is part of ongoing investigations into allegations of financial misconduct during Bello’s tenure as governor of Kogi State. The arraignment is expected to shed light on the charges and initiate formal court proceedings.
