The Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has pledged to collaborate with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency to curb illicit drug abuse and intake in the region.
The Chairman, Engr. Timothy Nwachi, made this commitment while hosting NDLEA officers from the Afikpo Command at his office on Monday.
He emphasized that most societal violence and crimes stem from illicit drug consumption, according to Independent.
Nwachi’s administration has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards harmful activities affecting youth and humanity.
He urged young people to avoid illicit drugs and instead channel their energy into productive ventures.
The Area Commander of the NDLEA Afikpo Command, ACN Kelly Adina, commended Nwachi’s commitment to peace and security. Adina highlighted the dangers of illicit drugs and reaffirmed the NDLEA’s readiness to partner with the local government to eradicate illegal drug use.
The partnership aims to educate residents on the risks associated with illicit drug consumption and enforce laws prohibiting drug abuse. The collaboration is expected to contribute to a safer and healthier community in Afikpo Local Government Area.
This development is part of ongoing efforts to address the growing concern of substance abuse in Nigeria. The NDLEA has been working tirelessly to combat illicit drug trafficking and abuse across the country.
