The Peoples Democratic Party has suspended its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade.
This decision was made by the National Working Committee during its 593rd meeting on Thursday.
According to the party, the suspension is pending an investigation into concerns raised against the two officials, according to Politics Nigeria.
A committee led by Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja has been constituted to probe the allegations.
In the meantime, Ibrahim Abdullahi Manga has been appointed Acting National Publicity Secretary, while Okechukwu Osuoha will serve as Acting National Legal Adviser, effective today.
The suspension comes amidst a deepening crisis within the party, particularly in the Rivers State chapter. Ologunagba and Ajibade had recently advocated for the party’s constitution to be upheld.
In a surprising turn of events, a faction of the NWC has also suspended National Chairman Umar Damagum and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, citing anti-party activities. The faction alleges that Damagum and Anyanwu’s actions violated the party’s constitution and their oath of office.
This development highlights the intense power struggle within the PDP, with different factions vying for control. The party’s leadership crisis is likely to have significant implications for its future.
“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) arising from its 593rd Meeting today, Thursday, October 10, 2024, has directed the National Publicity Secretary (NPS), Hon Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser (NLA), Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade, SAN, to step aside,” the statement read in part.
