A nationwide protest against economic hardships and bad governance has kicked off in Katsina on Thursday, with demonstrators marching through the city’s streets.
Led by Ambassador Umar Ahmed Jibrin of the “Struggle for Good Governance” group, the protesters carried placards demanding reduced government costs and improved safety, according to TheNation.
“We are here to remind the government of its neglected responsibilities,” Ambassador Jibrin told the crowd.
Despite the protests, the city remained calm, with many markets closed and a heavy security presence.
The protests are part of a nationwide movement calling for change in Nigeria’s governance and economic policies.
