Two prominent politicians, Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Peter Obi, have expressed shock and sadness over the passing of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who died on Saturday in the United Kingdom.
A chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Isiguzoro, described Ubah’s death as a “harvest of deaths” in the South-East, following the recent passing of Ohanaeze President-General, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.
He said, “What has Ndigbo done that we are receiving harvest of deaths in the South-East? Today’s news of Ifeanyi Ubah’s death is a rude shock to Igbo nation.”
He also prayed for God to grant the Ubah family the fortitude to bear the loss, saying, “Ndigbo have lost another big Iroko.”
The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, also mourned Ubah’s passing, calling it a “rude shock.”
He recalled their recent meeting at the burial of Chief Pius Onwuzo in Nnewi, Anambra State, and praised Ubah’s commitment to serving humanity through his foundation.
Obi said, “Despite party differences, I commended him for his contributions to a better humanity through his Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation… I urged him to continue in that direction.”
He also prayed for God to grant Ubah eternal rest, saying, “May God Almighty who called him home, at this time, forgive his sins and grant him eternal rest, and grant his family… the fortitude to bear this sad irreplaceable loss.”
Both leaders acknowledged Ubah’s contributions to the South-East and Nigeria, and expressed their condolences to his family and constituents. Their reactions highlight the impact of Ubah’s passing on the political and social landscape of the region.
