The Peoples Democratic Party has taken its case to the Court of Appeal, disputing a Federal High Court judgment that nullified its governorship primary in Edo State.
The party filed its appeal on Tuesday, arguing that the lower court’s decision was unjustified and seeking to overturn the ruling.
According to PDP, its primary election was legitimate, and Asue Ighodalo was duly chosen as its candidate, according to Politics Nigeria.
The party claims that the respondents did not participate in the ad-hoc ward congress that elected the delegates who voted in the primary.
The Federal High Court had ruled that PDP’s exclusion of 378 elected ward delegates from the primary election violated its constitution and electoral guidelines.
The court ordered the party to include these delegates in the primary election.
PDP is now asking the Court of Appeal to set aside the judgment, arguing that the trial court erred in its decision and misinterpreted the facts of the case.
The appeal involves several respondents, including Kelvin Mohammed, Gabriel Okoduwa, Ederaho Osagie, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and PDP officials.
