Chairman of Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, Alhaji Mohammadu Baba Okanla, has assured the seventeen participating political parties in the upcoming local government elections of transparency and a fair electoral process during an interview with journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday.
Okanla emphasized that all necessary arrangements had been finalized to conduct the council polls on September 21, 2024. He called upon the leaders of political parties to ensure that their members adhere strictly to the rules and refrain from instigating any conflicts before, during, or after the elections.
“As of today, we have 17 political parties that participated with us in the interface and we have given them the date, conditions, and timetable,” he stated.
Okanla further detailed the preparatory programs aimed at educating and sensitizing election stakeholders on the importance of ensuring a successful electoral process.
“We will be organizing a seminar for all political parties where we will clearly outline their responsibilities,” he explained. “The primary objective of this program is to ensure that on election day, they instruct their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully, turn out in large numbers, and vote for their preferred candidates.”
He underscored the commission’s commitment to providing a level playing field for all participants, stating, “To a greater extent, we have ensured a fair ground for all, demonstrating our transparency.”
