The Presidency has dismissed reports claiming that Minister of Finance Wale Edun proposed a new minimum wage of N105,000.
Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga clarified on his X account that Edun had not made such a proposal, labeling the reports as false. He wrote, “The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage. The contrary story being disseminated is false.”
Edun had presented a template for a new national minimum wage to President Bola Tinubu, adhering to a 48-hour deadline. Alongside the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, Edun provided President Tinubu with the cost implications of the new minimum wage during a meeting at the presidential villa in Abuja.
According to Western Post, a new proposal suggests a minimum wage of N105,000 (approximately $71) per month for Nigerian workers.
