There’s a rift among executive members of the All Progressives Congress in Igbotako ward and Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, regarding the suspension of a governorship aspirant, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, over alleged anti-party activities.
Senator Ibrahim, who contested in the April 20 governorship primary election, took legal action against the party, alleging fraud in the exercise.
A group of 29 APC executive members at the ward level and two local government executive members announced the suspension of Senator Ibrahim after a meeting on May 13, 2024. The decision was conveyed in a letter signed by the ward chairman, Adetokunbo Omotola, and 28 others. They cited the party’s constitution, accusing the Senator of insubordination and anti-party activities, particularly his decision to sue the party.
However, another letter signed by 55 executive members from the ward and local government council expressed confidence in Senator Ibrahim. According to them, no proper election had taken place during the primary, and they contested the legitimacy of the process.
In response to the suspension, the 55 ward executive members passed a vote of confidence on Senator Ibrahim. The party’s ward-level Secretary and Assistant Public Relations Officer, Otekaye Sunday and Olowole Musa, respectively, declared their support for Senator Ibrahim, questioning the legitimacy of the primary election.
The Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Alex Kalejaye, stated that the party had not been officially informed about Senator Ibrahim’s suspension.
