Manchester United boss, Ruben Amorim, has hinted that Marcus Rashford could still play a role in the Premier League, despite the forward’s recent loan move to Aston Villa in January.
Rashford was sidelined from Amorim’s plans back in December, sparking speculation of a permanent departure from Old Trafford this summer.
Speaking ahead of United’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth on Sunday (kick-off 14:00 BST), Amorim provided several squad updates and addressed ongoing transfer questions.
He revealed that right-back Diogo Dalot might be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a calf issue, confirming, “he will definitely not be involved in the next games.”
Amorim also offered a fitness update, noting Matthijs de Ligt and Amad Diallo are nearing a return to action, while Ayden Heaven’s recovery is progressing more slowly.
With the Europa League semi-final looming, Amorim emphasized the need to maintain focus in domestic competition, “It’s important to not lose on Sunday because we need to have the feeling that every game here is important and we have to win every game.”
Despite the lure of Europe, he made it clear he’s prioritizing league results, “We are going to face this game with the best team. I will try to prepare for this game and try to win the next one.”
When asked about the potential return of Rashford this summer, Amorim said, “All the players that are on loan will return and then the club will decide what to do at the end of the season. Rashford and Antony, they have the talent and have to put it on the team. The best thing for us is for them to perform, and they are performing.”
He also noted that players have the ability to reshape their standing in the squad, citing Casemiro’s recent resurgence,“He wasn’t playing and then you see in the last games that he’s having a part, he’s performing quite well and he’s playing all the time.”
Addressing questions about Manchester United’s appeal to prospective signings, Amorim remained optimistic, “There are a lot of players that want to play for our club. In this moment, with all the problems, it looks a little bit of a problem – but we have a clear idea and that’s the easiest part to explain to a player. It’s Manchester United and every player wants to play for Manchester United.”
Although he declined to speak directly about links to Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, Amorim confirmed he has a clear vision for his squad moving forward.
He concluded by stressing the need for internal reflection regardless of how the season ends, “We need to be critical, no matter what happens.”
