Senator Ayogu Eze from Enugu State has reportedly passed away aged 66.
“Senator Ayogu Eze has died. He was born in 1958,” said a source.
The Senator represented Enugu North Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
According to Daily Post, a source revealed that Eze, a former Senate spokesman, died in an Abuja hospital after battling a long-term illness.
“The late Senator has been unwell for some time, which prevented him from attending his child’s wedding earlier this year in Lagos State,” the source added.
Eze was a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party before defecting to the All Progressives Congress, where he contested the Enugu State governorship election.
“In 2007, he was appointed chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and Media, which made him the official spokesman of the Senate,” the source continued.
“After his reelection to the Senate in 2011, he was appointed chairman of the Committee on Works.”
“Eze also served as a member of committees on Police Affairs, National Planning, Marine Transport, and Federal Character & Inter-Governmental Affairs.”
“Last May, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Eze and five others as Federal Commissioners for the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.”
