The South East National Vice Chairman of Labour Party, Ceejay Igara, has revealed that Peter Obi followers under the aegis of ‘Obidient Family’ have nothing to do with the party.
The party stalwart, during an interaction with the Independent revealed more crisis within the party.
He said that the movement had written a letter to the party stating their stand as Obidient members and not those of LP.
He stated that it was on this grounds that the party would not “allow them to come and take over the house they didn’t build.”
While clearing the air on the ownership of the party, Igara stated that the Nigeria Labour Congress registering the party does not mean they are the owners based on constitution.
He challenged the leadership of the NLC to seek legal regress to know who truly owns the party.
He said, “Now, let me bring this to your knowledge; are you aware that the Obidient family wrote us a letter to say that they are not members of the Labour Party? They told us that they are not members of the Labour Party, that they are members of the Obidient family; as Obidient Family, we cannot allow them to come and take over the house they didn’t build. If you are a member of the Labour Party, you will understand the dynamics; you will understand the constitution and what we are doing.
“This is just as people are talking about the Nigeria Labour Congress and their members. Let me also shock you; too many of the people that are proposing to come and lead Labour Party were members of the Tinubu campaign council in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and because they are not card-carrying members of the Labour Party, how can we allow them to come and take over the party? If they are card-carrying members of the party, they will understand the dynamics and what our constitution is talking about.”
He continued, “Mind you our constitution spells out what it takes to be a member of our party so it is only those of us who are members that know who and who are qualified members of this party. Somebody said NLC registered the party and so they’re the owners of the party; but such people failed to realise that once a party is registered, it becomes a going concern, standing on its own and there are no other owners apart from the condition for membership, you automatically become a member. So they’re all speaking out of ignorance; why can’t they go to court. Let them go to court and then let the court spell out whether they are the owners of the Labour Party or not.
” That is why we said during the convention that there is no pro-group anymore, everyone and every group should dissolve into the Labour Party.”
