Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress have stormed the National Assembly demanding the lawmakers to rescue Nigerian workers.
The protesters who came in their numbers chanting “Akpabio come to our aid ” carrying various placards were seen pleading with the National Assembly to hear their plights.
Although, as at the time of filing this report, they were yet to be addressed by either the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio or the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
The NLC had scheduled a nationwide protest was from February 27 to 28.
The congress had alerted its members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to protest against the hardship being faced by civil servants in Nigeria.
The the NLC and the Trade Union Congress had on February 8, issued a 14-day nationwide strike notice to the Federal Government over the failure to implement the agreements reached on October 2 following the removal of fuel subsidy, according to Daily Post.
However, as Nigerians continue to grapple with economic hardship, the union decided to embark on a two-day nationwide protest to press their demands.
Despite security advisory by the Department of State Services, the union kick-started the protest in many cities across the nation.
