The Independent National Electoral Commission has promised a smooth and hitch-free exercise, in the forthcoming bye-election in the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency of Taraba State.
This assurance was made by the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the INEC in Taraba State, Alhaji Umar Mukhtar Gajiram, during the distribution of sensitive materials on Thursday, a few days before the scheduled election on Saturday.
Affirming the readiness of the commission to conduct a seamless election in the constituency while addressing the public, the state REC emphasised that the commission has implemented crucial lessons from past elections, demonstrating a commitment to delivering a transparent, fair, and credible electoral process during the exercise.
“We have taken all necessary measures at the very high levels to ensure that these elections go on smoothly. This is to make sure that everything is in place on time,” stated Gajiram.
He highlighted the distribution of sensitive materials as a critical step in ensuring a hitch-free by-election in the state, and the country at large.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner also mentioned extensive security meetings held in both Jalingo and Abuja, expressing confidence that security measures are in place.
He reassured the public that efforts have been made to prevent any unpleasant experiences during the electoral process.
“Let me use this opportunity to call on all the players to exercise caution and play by the rules. It is an election and not a war. I also want to assure the voters to come out in mass and exercise their right to choose their representative,” Gajiram urged.
The upcoming by-election is set to take place in 652 polling units across three local government councils on Saturday.
The vacancy arose when the previously elected member, Isma’la Mahanchi, passed away before his inauguration, in the 2923 general election.
