Bauchi State House of Assembly elected a new speaker and deputy, after the removal of the former speaker, Abubakar Suleiman, and his deputy, Jamilu Barade, by the Court of Appeal.
The members of the State House of Assembly on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, elected the new speaker and his deputy, in replacement of Suleiman and Barade who were both sacked by the appellate courts, over electoral matters.
However, a lawmaker representing Hadawa State Constituency, Babayo Muhammad Akuyam, emerged as a new Speaker while Ahmed Abdullahi from Dass Constituency was elected Deputy Speaker of the Assembly unopposed.
The Court had sacked the former Speaker, who represented Ningi Central on Friday, and ordered a rerun in 10 polling units while his deputy, Jamilu BaraBaradeoval was sacked on Monday, with an order of a rerun in 9 polling units in his constituency.
