The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Imo State has guaranteed the electorates in the State, maximum security during the November 11 governorship election in the state.
Giving the assurance on Friday, while addressing the 4,650 operatives of the NSCDC deployed to the state, to provide security in the Saturday election, the commandant-general of the NSCDC, Ahmed Audi, urged the voters to come out en masse and exercise their franchise.
Audi expressed assurance that necessary things have been put in place by the corps, to guarantee voters security during the exercise.
“All necessary arrangements have been concluded for a successful election. We are confidently ready to provide safety and security for this election and we urge Imo residents to freely exercise their franchise,” said the NSCDC boss.
The security expert added, “Our men are everywhere.”
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Mr Audi described elections as one of the principles of democracy, while advising the electorate to play by the rules of the game.
The NSCDC boss, however, advised his officers to remain non-partisan and reject all forms of aggrandisement from politicians and their supporters, while discharging their duties.
He further assured that the NSCDC would collaborate with other security agencies to ensure adequate protection of the electorate, electoral materials and personnel of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Audi warned those who may be planning to perpetrate violence on election day to desist from it, or ”they will be made to face the full weight of the law.”
