Former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience, have arrived their polling unit to cast their votes in the Bayelsa governorship election.
The couple arrived at polling unit 39, Ward 13 in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa state, on Saturday morning, around 10:00 am.
They were greeted by a crowd of supporters and journalists who had gathered to witness their participation in the exercise.
Jonathan, who is a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election so far. He said he was hopeful that the process would be peaceful and credible. He also urged the people of Bayelsa to come out and exercise their franchise, saying that their votes would determine the future of the state.
The Bayelsa governorship election is being contested by 16 candidates from different political parties. The incumbent governor, Douye Diri of the PDP, is seeking re-election against his main challenger, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, who is a former governor and the immediate minister of state for petroleum, and Udengmobofa Eradiri of the Labour Party.
