The Social Democratic Party in Kogi State has raised an alarm that the ruling All Progressives Congress in the State, is importing thugs from Neighbouring Jigawa and Nasarawa states, to unleash violence in Kogi, ahead of the November 11 governorship election in the State.
Confirming this during a press conference in Lokoja on Tuesday, the Director of Communications of the Muritala Yakubu Ajaka Gubernatorial Campaign Organisation, Faruk Adejo-Audu, alleged that the APC is already intimidating the electorate before the election.
Audu who claimed that the party had passed a vote of no confidence on the Commissioner of police in the state, Berthrand Onuoha, bemoaned several attacks on SDP supporters across the state.
The SDP Chieftain alleged that the police boss will not be fair to all, in the forthcoming election in the state.
“The APC has imported military hardware, thugs from Jigawa, Toto in Nasarawa State, to cause chaos in Kogi.
” It has never happened in Kogi State that two governorship candidates, Leke Abejide and Muri Ajaka, went to get a court order to allow them to campaign.
“They are doing this just because they don’t want to be arrested by the APC-led government and later arraigned in court.
“SDP wants the world to know that 21 convicts sentenced for various electoral offences have been released by Gov. Bello.
“Whenever an election is coming under Bello’s government, there is always fear and apprehension,” he alleged.
“21 persons sentenced for various degrees of electoral offences were released by Bello. Okwo recently killed was released by Bello. Why is Kogi under Bello when the election is coming, there will be fear and apprehension?” SDP Chieftain asked.
Similarly, Chairman Muri/Sam campaign, Kogi East, Alhaji Hassan Yakubu Enape, while speaking during the media briefing, faulted the Kogi State Police Command for saying that it was not aware of the SDP rally in Koton Karfe which led to the death of a party supporter.
Enape alleged that the party applied to the Police before holding the rally, claiming that the application was acknowledged and approved by the police authority.
