A former Media Aide to Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate former governor of Kano State, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, has described the Wednesday loss of the sitting governor of the State, Abba Kabir Yusuf at the tribunal, as a result of the loss of his goodwill among the people of the state, because of the “reckless and indiscriminate demolition” he embarked on, in Kano state.
Yakasai who stated this via his X handle, while reacting to Mr Yusuf’s loss at the tribunal on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, claimed that the action of the embattled governor has erased the goodwill he enjoyed with the people, from the first day he embarked on the demolition project.
“The day Abba Kabir Yusuf began that reckless and indiscriminate demolition was the day he lost Kano.
“The one thing they had going into the elections was the support of the Kano metropolitan area, that demolition erased that goodwill, and that’s the day he lost Kano,” Yakasai tweeted.
It would be recalled that Yusuf who was the candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party at the March 18 governorship election in the state, was earlier declared the winner of the election, by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
However, the All Progressives Congress approached the tribunal, challenging the victory of the NNPP/candidate, even after the candidate of the party, Nasir Gawuna congratulated Yusuf.
However, the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Kano on Wednesday declared Gawuna as the winner of the election.
The three-man panel of the Justices gave the final judgement after nullifying some votes recorded by the NNPP candidate, noting that the ballots were not signed or stamped.
The Presiding Judge, Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadabey, held that the margin of votes scored by Yusuf was not enough to give him victory in the election.
