At least 200,000 families in Zamfara State will benefit from the State Government subsidy palliative.
This was made known by the State Executive Council, headed by Governor Dauda Lawal, on Tuesday.
While fielding questions from the press after the exco meeting, the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Nakwada said the palliative will cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
He said, “As part of the resolutions by the Council, 200,000 vulnerable families in the State will benefit from foodstuff as one the palliative measures to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government.”
He added that some categories of civil servants in the State would be considered for a similar gesture in an appropriate arrangement for the palliative programme, according to Daily Post.
The Executive Council also approved the immediate provision of 50 palliative buses for a start and another ten 52-seater Marcopolo buses to reduce transportation problems for students in the State.
In addition, primary school pupils, in particular, are to enjoy free transportation under the new palliative arrangement.
