The former National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress, Ahmad El-Marzuq, has explained that he resigned voluntarily.
El-Marzuq had tendered his resignation on the eve of the APC National Caucus meeting held at the banquet hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.
According to reports circulating on social media, he was rumored to have been forced to do so.
However, according to The PUNCH, the APC former National Legal Adviser said his resignation was voluntary and nothing more.
Even though he refused to give further comment on the issue, he was reported to have said, “It was a voluntary resignation,”
Meanwhile, the APC National Working Committee has denied reports that El-Marzuq was forced to resign.
The Deputy National Organising Secretary of the APC, Nze Chidi Duru, denied that it wasn’t so, saying the reports are untrue, adding that he was not sent out of the NEC meeting on Thursday.
Duru noted that “El-Marzuq resigned from the NWC, and his letter was accepted by the party.
“Forget what anybody might have told you that he was shut out at the NEC meeting. It is not true. El-Marzuq is a member of the body of life benchers. To be a life bencher in the legal profession is a strong position.
“If anybody said he attempted to force his way to the meeting, it can only be in the realm of conjecture. He will not do such a thing. It is speculation. The party is working together. There is no division.”
