The Africa Union Political Affairs Peace and Security has urged its member states to popularize its, Agenda2063, Vision2030, 2022 Accra and Malabo Declarations and other instruments in their respective countries.
The Commission said this during its recently held 1165th meeting, comprising of all membered Africa countries.
Part of the highlights of the meeting, was the resolve against coup, terrorism, violence and hate speech. A resolve that most likely speaks against the ongoing coup in one of its member states, Nigér Republic.
On Wednesday, July 26, the presidential military guards in Nigér took over power, vacating its president, Mohamed Bazoum.
The commission, therefore, stated that it had appealed to the countries that will be organizing elections to spare no effort in promoting peaceful inclusive, transparent and credible elections.
Some of the other resolutions of the meeting include, “Council reiterated #AU’s total rejection of #UCG, coup d’etat, terrorism, violence & hate speech in all circumstances; appealed to the countries that will be organizing elections to spare no effort in promoting peaceful inclusive, transparent and credible elections.
“It urged #MSs (Member States) in political transition to accelerate the return to constitutional order.
“It encouraged all electoral candidates to accept election results as officially pronounced by competent authorities.
“It emphasized the importance of paying particular attention to gender parity in line with continental and international instruments, #ACDEG, #Agenda2063, #Vision2030.
“It underlined the important role of the media and #CSOs as well as the effective participation of the diaspora in electoral processes in Member States.
“Council commended #RECs/#RMs for the support rendered to Member States in the election processes;
“It appealed to the the #PRC to allocate adequate funding to the @AUC_PAPS to enable it to effectively provide the required support to Member States.
“It highlighted the need to insure that National Election Management Bodies are adequately capacitated using domestic resources to effectively discharge their mandate.
“It encouraged Member States, that had not yet done so, to sign, ratify & domesticate the African Charter on Democracy, Election and Governance and encouraged #MSs to popularize the 2022 #Accra and #Malabo Declarations, Vision 2030, #Agenda2063 and other relevant #AU instruments. @ 1165th #AUPSC Mtg.”
