Human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has condemned the military coup which took place in Nigér Republic earlier in the week, describing it as the worst thing that can happen to any nation.
Soldiers in Nigér had on Wednesday, July 26, announced a coup on national TV, vacating the President, Mohamed Bazoum.
They said they had dissolved the constitution, suspended all institutions and closed the nation’s borders.
Bazoum had since been held by troops from the presidential guard.
However, Bazoum was promised unwavering support from the United States in a call from from US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres also offered the organisation’s full support to the uranium-rich country.
Sharing her thoughts via her Twitter handle on Saturday, she said that Nigeria was at its worst during the military era.
She wrote, “Military coup is the worst thing that can happen to any Nation.
“Nigeria was at its worst during the military era. Do not allow anyone to romanticize the horror of civilians being looked upon as less than human and treated as such.”
