President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fired all Service Chiefs of the Federation with immediate effect, as he approved their immediate retirement on Monday.
PUNCH Metro reported that the Inspector General of Police, Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, and Advisers were affected.
This development was made known in a statement by the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary-General to the Federation, Willie Bassey.
According to the statement, Nuhu Ribadu who was the Security Adviser to the President has now been appointed as the National Security Adviser.
Also, former Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Christopher Musa, would replace General Lucky Irabor as the Chief of Defence Staff.
Similarly, Major General T. A Lagbaja would replace Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya as the Chief of Army Staff, while Rear Admiral E. A Ogalla has been appointed to take over from Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo as the Chief of Naval Staff and Air Marshal Oludayo Amao would be replaced by
Air Vice Marshal H.B Abubakar as the Chief of Air Staff.
DIG Kayode Egbetokun was appointed as the Acting Inspector-General of Police as he replaces Usman Baba, and Major General EPA Undiandeye as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.
Later on Monday, the President also dissolved the boards of Federal Government agencies, institutions and companies.
Two weeks ago, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, was suspended. A week ago, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, was also suspended.
It would seem as though the President is on a ‘sacking streak’. It is believed that he is making reforms to the key sectors that would impact his government and set the ball rolling.
