The Lamidi Apapa faction of the Labour Party has knocked the Presidential candidate of the party in the last presidential election, Peter, over his prayer at the tribunal, that Tinu’s inauguration on May 29, must not hold.
The faction, which distanced itself from the calls for an interim government and the agitations that the President-elect should not be sworn in on May 29, pending the determination of the petitions before the presidential election tribunal, described Obi as a hypocrite who had also benefited from the benevolence of the law.
The faction, in a statement issued by its spokesman, Abayomi Arabambi on Wednesday, explained that the Electoral Act and the Constitution of Nigeria do not give room for a vacuum, “so whether the President-elect is sworn in or not, there is right to remove him legally if it is found out that he was not duly elected.”
However, the faction stated how the court removed Chris Ngige and confirmed Peter Obi as the governor of Anambra in 2003.
It, however, took a clue from sections 136 and 146 of the constitution, noting that only death and permanent incapacity can stop a President-elect from being sworn in.
According to Arabambi, a vacuum will be created if Tinubu is not sworn in and this is not entertained by the law.
“What Peter Obi is crying for is not supported by the law.”
“A refusal to swear in Tinubu as President will create a vacuum in the system,” he said.
Proofing that his request is welcome by the law, Arabambi said “Even Peter Obi once benefitted from the system of being sworn into office despite pending petitions filed against him before the tribunal by Andy Uba.”
“The Law has to be complied with, which is to swear in Tinubu as president, and if anybody wants to change the narrative, they will have to change the law,” he said.
However, the spokesman warned all the people calling for such, to change their mindset and face the reality of the law.
“Labour Party warns all Obidiots clandestinely parading themselves as LP members and other Obidients who may be agitating that the President-elect should not be sworn in to have a rethink as Labour Party will not support any unlawful means of agitations or change of government violently,” he said.
He made it clear that the party would not relent in its commitment to pursue its case in the judiciary, noting that they are a set of people, who believe in pursuing things lawfully.
