A Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council Spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, has maintained that the party’s presidential candidate in the February 25 election, Peter Obi, will eventually become Nigeria’s president.
The Veteran Nollywood actor cum politician said the former Anambra State Governor will reclaim his mandate if the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal lives up to its “true bidding.”
Okonkwo made this assertion while speaking during an interview on Channels TV recently.
He said, “If the court of justice will live up to its true bidding of being a court of justice, I will tell you by the grace of God, Peter Obi, will be the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The lawyer reportedly quoted section 134 2b of the Nigerian constitution, saying it was clear that any candidate who did not score 25 per cent of votes in the Federal Capital Territory ought not to be declared the winner of a presidential election.
He said it’s up to the judicial to save Nigeria’s democracy by living up to its true bidding.
Recall that, the Independent National Electoral Commission had on March 1 declared the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the winner of the February 25 presidential election.
He is to be sworn-in on May 29 at the Eagle Square in Abuja, alongside other newly elected officers from the just concluded 2023 general elections.
