The Economy and Financial Crimes Commission has declared that the agency will be going after corrupt governors and public officials after the expiration of their tenure by May 29.
According to Daily Trust, this was stated by the chairman of the anti-graft agency, Abdulrasheed Bawa, at the headquarters of the commission in an interview with journalists.
While he failed to give names of the governors targeted, Bawa also said that the commission is keeping an eye on at least two ministries for possible fraudulent activity related to procurement operations.
Bawa said, “Currently, we’re investigating two ministries where double payments were made. In one of the ministries, the double payments, cumulatively, were about 20 contracts of over N4bn.
“These were contracts that were done way back 2018, and then some group of people, so bold, came up with the same narration.
“They moved the documents from the file, forged them, and then of course in conspiracy of some civil servants, raised vouchers and pay. How can that happen if we have digitalised procurement processes.”
